Every online marketer worth his click-thru's is aware of the wealth of advice
he can tap into by subscribing to online marketing ezines. Selecting an opp,
developing it, growing it, expanding it, sustaining it, every subject is explored,
explained, and made easy for the possible financial benefit of us marketers.
Just a few issues from a handful of ezines is enough to collect huge megabytes
of info on how to work the different aspects of our online business.
Yet, How Many Of Us Profit From All This Free Info?
Not many it seems.
The oft-quoted statistics say...
97% new online biz's shut shop in the first year itself!!!
Here are a few suggestions that could help convert word-info
into cash-info i.e. articles to profit!
1. Take Control!
Control the number of ezines you are subscribed to.
Consciously limit subscriptions to a number you are comfortable with and while
deciding this number keep in mind your other reasons for joining ezines lists,
reasons like paid ads, free ads, or whatever.
2. Try 'READING' as opposed to 'SCANNING'
Time is never enough and though scanning is an effective way to fast-filter
potential from fluff, it can get overdone - specially if the inbox has too many
ezines in it. You could even miss out on good stuff thru 'ineffective scanning'
(Tis better to 'Read & Reap' than 'Rush & Weep' sayeth the bard in me)
3. Stop making 'Mental Notes' to use 'Later'
'Mental Notes' are easily and quickly forgotten, while 'Later' rarely comes!
Intending to come back later to a brilliant article in some particular ezine is the
sprouting of the seed of procrastination, it should be struck down there and then.
4. Stop saving articles, hints, tips for 'later'
If you are in the habit of collecting and saving biz-building articles, tips, hints, etc.
(like I once were) with the intention of applying this knowledge to your biz efforts
at some later stage, then it may be time to stop 'only collecting and saving'!
To read articles with a view to extract profit from them try
doing this:
Whenever you come across an article etc you feel could help in refining some
aspect of your online business, (or any thing else for that matter) send a silent
thanks to the universe; then show that gratitude - Act - Immediately!
Do This
*Copy and 'save' the article in a 'notepad' file.
*Copy and 'save' BUT do not close the file.
Now open whichever aspect of your business this article refers to, ad-headlines,
ad-copy, web-design, web-copy, web-traffic, ad-copy, whatever! Begin reading
the article and as soon as you come across the smallest bit of info you could use
in your online efforts, immediately apply it. Toggle between the article and your
efforts (Alt+Tab-windows) while simultaneously - correcting, editing, and,
making immediate changes.
You will be surprised at the results! And Pleased Too!
This is what I implemented for one of my ads while reading that most buying
decisions are emotional: The book on how to live on a lot less money and be self-
reliant even if you have quit your job...
'Living Well On Practically Nothing' by Edward H. Romney
...has a list price of $27.00 but retails for $17.82. My ad for this book lists both
these prices but when I read that 'most buying decisions are emotionally based'
I included one more price point - the used-book version price which retails from
$10.00 onwards. I figure the buying interest which could be on the fence at $27,
just about to topple over at $17.82, will topple over at $10. The article suggested
the change, I made it. It's part of me now, I could even forget the article...!
(P.S. price-points shown above are subject to variations)
So...
If it is ad-copy you are working on, yours will change right before your eyes.
If it is headline-copy yours could morph into that 'hypnotic' spell you've only
seen till now.
Or...
You could finally understand what triggers are needed where for people to buy
stuff from you online and how your site is missing those crucial 'triggers'
Of course, instead of copying to notepad, you could simply toggle between the
article right where it is - in your email program or web page - and start applying it
to your efforts. I use notepad for it is extremely easy and quick to copy, save, and
open when required. It's stark black and white format with no distracting toolbars
helps in staying focused on the task at hand and this gets the job done as quickly
as possible. (quite like the article you are reading right now - there is nothing to
distract your mind)
Another thing you could do is take a print-out, a hard-copy:
The article can now be read in different places and from more 'angles' than is
possible on the desk-top or even the lap-top. Away from the puter you may not
be able to implement new ideas instantly but you could jot them down on the
hard-copy. There is one unique advantage of doing things in different places,
times, and positions, it attracts inspiration; and since inspiration is known for
arriving without informing - always - keep a pencil or pen at hand to jot down
its fleeting caresses
Either which way - at the puter or away from it - the results are instantaneous.
Now, all those helpful articles which normally would be scanned and most
probably canned, are...Saved, Read, Applied!
One tremendously beneficial side-effect of the 'now' approach is the potent
attack this approach makes on the scourge of most small and home-based
businesses - Procrastination. The 'now' approach has inadvertently handled
this major obstacle for me. I believe it will do the same for you too.
(This just came to mind...guess this is how many major obstacles should be
handled. Not with direct confrontation because having been allowed to grow
into huge beasts we would surely lose out in direct confrontation with our major
problems. Instead we should try tactical approaches where the problem beast
is unaware when we are whittling it down. example - 'now' approach for the
procrastination monster. Seek-n-Destroy when the beast is of manageable size!)
